VA is providing hardscape and landscape design for a house one block from the ocean, fully remodeled by Toro Arquitectos. The main challenges are creating privacy within a limited site and addressing periodic flooding during storms.Our design introduces raised platforms that act as floating stepping stones to access the back garden and pool area, with native grasses and forbs planted two feet below walking level to tolerate both dry and flooded conditions. To screen the neighboring house without monotony, the pool is anchored by tall planters at one end, complemented by a partial trellis in the center and a cluster of palms at the other. Construction is anticipated in fall 2024.
