VA is leading the site planning and design of a 4.35-acre property on a cliff above Jobos and Montones Beach, a renowned surfing destination in Isabela. The family retreat is envisioned as off-grid, with a large vegetable garden and reforestation using native species along the open edges. Toro Arquitectos are designing the buildings, while VA integrates site planning with program needs, ensuring a seamless inside–outside flow. The land, once farmland, retains the feel of a savanna with scattered mature trees. At its heart stands a massive West Indian almond—revered as the “Avatar tree”—which anchors the design. The ocean is already framed by trees, and the slow walk toward the cliff edge builds a powerful sense of anticipation. This central axis to the sea remains protected, free of buildings, and guides the emerging site plan.
